What Inspires Me?

Jewelry Design

I was at an art fair in St. Louis and saw a beautiful line of jewelry in which each of the design elements was coiled wool felt nestled into a silver fitting. These fittings were clustered together in groups of three and four. I was taken with the rich colors and sharp lines, and the clusters made me think of grapes. After some experimentation I landed on the design for my Communion stole, in which the perfect circles in three shades of purple silk dupioni spill across both sides of the stole, and the single sheaf of wheat arches across that same gap. I am definitely drawn to large designs that can be appreciated from a distance, especially when they are cropped in an unusual way.
