Church Mission
I was approached by the pastor of a new Disciples of Christ church to create a banner that would capture their identity. The church itself grew out of a mission to provide for people in need by running a thrift store that raised funds and donated clothing to their neighbors. They were immensely proud of this mission, and rightly so. The pastor didn’t want the name of the church on the banner so as to keep the mission front and center. In order to really reflect their work, I suggested we focus on the chalice logo of the Disciples of Christ church and create the banner entirely out of clothing from their thrift store. They gathered a few garments in red, white and blue and sent them to me. We cut those clothes up and created a patchwork crazy quilt that is indelibly linked to this church and their mission of caring for their neighbors in need.
