The Art of Sol LeWitt
While at a conference in Des Moines, a friend and I visited the DeMoines Art Center where I saw this painting by Sol LeWitt. I was taken with the dynamic beauty of this piece and I remembered it for years after. One of the struggles of this work is that so much time is spent on designs and projects for specific clients that it is hard to make time to work on new design ideas just for the sake of creative exploration. A decade after seeing this LeWitt painting I had the opportunity to participate in a quilting lock-in, so I used the opportunity to create orphreys for a purple chasuble which I called Jacob’s Ladder.
